About

At Gunthorpe Cattle Company, our seedstock and commercial operations are built on integrity, ecological responsibility, and a commitment to progressive, commercially focused genetics. Through strategic herd management, EBV-driven selection, rigorous fertility testing, and sustainable land practices, we deliver bulls that perform in real-world conditions—tailored to the demands of northern Australia. We’re focused on breeding for the future, while staying true to the foundations that continue to guide us.

Family owned and run

Tarramba Brahmans & Brangus is a family-owned and operated beef enterprise based at "Tarramba", near Banana in Central Queensland. We run a Brahman stud, a Brangus stud, and a commercial backgrounding herd — with fertility, productivity, and sustainability at the centre of everything we do.

Our registered herd comprises 500–600 registered Brahman females and 250 registered Brangus females. Commercial cows are joined to Angus and Charolais bulls to produce our own backgrounders, alongside a trade mob of 600-1,000 steers and heifers that we buy and breed annually.

Our story

Tarramba's story began in 1979, when Wallace and Kate Gunthorpe — together with Wallace's parents, Keith and Nancy Gunthorpe — purchased the property. The foundation Brahman females came from Kate's parents, Arnie and Isabell Kirk of Rockley Brahmans, and it's a lineage we're proud to carry forward.

Today, Tarramba is managed by Adam and Tracy Gunthorpe, along with their children Hannah and Fletcher. Adam has lived and worked on the property for most of his life, and in 2018 he and Tracy took over the land and cattle, beginning the next chapter of Tarramba genetics.

How we have grown

Our direction was shaped in part by completing the RCS Grazing for Profit and Executive Link programs, which gave us a strong grounding in both ecological management and business fundamentals. Following the family succession in 2019, we restructured the operation — acquiring Tarramba and consolidating our holdings to manage approximately 17,000 acres.

In 2024, Adam and Tracy relocated to Dulong in southern Queensland, where Tracy is studying Medicine at Griffith University. Adam continues to oversee breeding and property operations with regular trips to Tarramba.

What we stand for

We manage people, profit, land, and cattle — in that order, and with respect for each. Our business is built on integrity, and our goal has always been to produce genetics that are genuinely useful to the people who buy them.
